About us

The association was originally founded in 1982 as the "Verein Entwicklungshilfe-Stiftung e.V. Stuttgart" under the patronage of retired state premier Dr. Lothar Späth and other well-known politicians. The association was reorganised and developmental cooperation was taken up again in 1991, at which point the association was given its current name of "Verein Entwicklungshilfe Baden Württemberg e.V." (VEBW: Registered Association for Development Aid in Baden Württemberg).

The goal is education towards self-help, the main focus being the advancement of women, and the geographical focus, Nepal. The chairwoman of the association is Ann-Katrin Bauknecht, Honorary Consul-General of Nepal.

Your commitment

Did you know that...

  • 70 percent of the people living in poverty are women?
  • only 30 percent of all women actually get paid for their work?
  • 20 percent of all women worldwide are rape victims (according to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency)?
  • 60 percent of all illiterate people in the world are women?
  • women in rural areas of Africa are responsible for obtaining 90 percent of the water and fuel required daily and are totally in charge of preparing food for the family?
These are only some of the reasons for our special commitment to the advancement of women.
Women all over the world take a lot of responsibility and at the same time bear the brunt of suffering, whatever form this may take.
We urgently need your help to relieve these situations and to introduce projects that can provide regional solutions. We cooperate with local partner organisations and consider the principles of sustainability right from the beginning in the planning of our projects. Since we work on a purely voluntary basis, the financial burden of the VEBW itself is very light.

We help people to help themselves, but it all costs money and therefore we need your support.

The sources of our subsidies have been and will continue to be:

  1. Private donations
  2. Membership fees
  3. Allowances from foundations and public institutions
  4. Application for subsidised projects
  5. Money earned through public lectures and fund-raising activities

Special thanks go to the Honorary Consulate-General of Nepal in Stuttgart.

Participation in competitions and the application for subsidies from trusts and other public institutions must be prepared with great care. Applications are subject to detailed qualitative guidelines so that the preparation in itself already guarantees that the projects will be carried out professionally.

  1. Become a member of the VEBW, so that you can bring quick, direct help to people living in extremely difficult circumstances.

  2. You could also become a sponsor with closer contact to one of our projects (see for example the current convent school project in Tsarang).

  3. Give us a single donation. It's entirely up to you which project you choose to give your money to. Or you can place the money at our disposal and let us decide which project to use it for. Interested? Then fill in the "Donations" form and send is to us. Besides, you can get tax back on donations.

  4. 1.If you have any other idea of how you could cooperate with us, do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We're always open to new ideas.
We will be pleased to answer any questions you may have.

Many thanks!
